At first glance you might think you're seeing a sculpture made from the banding often used on wooden packing crates. Upon closer examination, though, you discover that it's actually a photograph of such banding that has been adhered to a wooden box, then wrapped in another band, photographed again and pasted on again, and so on, in a repeated process of photographing the object and then adhering the photo to the object, building up layers of embedded images on the final sheet of printing paper.
For this exhibition Shunsuke Kano presents new works of sculpture created through this elaborate process, as well as printed photographic works emphasizing the fact that photographs are merely phenomena on the printing paper. Kano works with the relationships between objects and images he finds around him, stimulating viewers to become more conscious and questioning of many of the “presupposed structures” that we so often overlook.

Shunsuke Imai explores a sense of three-dimensionality that inevitably emerges in flat-surfaced paintings. The warps and twists revealed on the flat paintings using stripes and dots convey a three-dimensional sense like fluttering flags. Imai's works in this exhibition feature a sculpture made of stripes in random arrangements transcribed and dyed onto cloth, as well as large-scale paintings made using the same patterns. Viewers are reinforced the concept of three-dimensionality within flat surfaces by looking at flat and three-dimensional works at the same time.

Madoka Furuhashi began her career in architecture and since moving into art from there, she renders everyday objects into art in a way that investigates the sites and frameworks defining art. In her work using objects left in the house she resided in London, she arranged objects such as half-broken furniture and kitchen utensils left by past inhabitants along with photographs to rebuild these as an installation.
For this exhibition, her first solo show in Japan, she exhibits new works created from used everyday objects collected in Japan such as fish bowls and insect cages, as well as agricultural implements. She explores the stories that surround such objects, drawing forth their inherent power.
