The Shiseido Gallery will be holding the exhibition "Silence Disrupted - Where Mind Meets Cosmos|The Thirteen Rooms of Daijo-ji: Bishin Jumonji" from Tues. August 27 to Sun. October 20, 2024.
Photographer Bishin Jumonji has been confronting long-standing traditions in Japanese culture as an attempt to discover their underlying universal value. Through his photographs, he delves into his own experiences and memories, continuing to express the timeless beauty of Japan through his unique vision.
In this exhibition, Jumonji's photographs of the Kyakuden (Guest House) of Daijo-ji Temple (Kasumi-cho, Mikata-gun, Hyogo Prefecture) will be presented in a large-scale installation that re-creates this distinctive space. Daijo-ji is known for its decorated sliding doors (fusuma-e), which are said to have been crafted by Ōkyo Maruyama and his disciples. The new space created by Jumonji's unique gaze will surprise visitors with new experiences while also encompassing the Buddhist universe created by Ōkyo and his school in the past.
